Chocolate Red Wine Ice Cream is legit amazing. Sure, you could buy your Valentine wine or chocolate on this romantic holiday, but you’ll blow her mind if you combine the two. Want some V-Day hanky-panky? Serving up this ice cream will do the trick ?

True confession time – I’m not big into Valentine’s Day. I don’t put pressure on Kieran to buy me anything for what I consider a Hallmark holiday. Sure, we wish each other a happy V-Day and exchange I love you’s, but neither of us needs or wants anything more than that. However, one year Kieran surprised me by making me a homemade Valentine’s Day card that was epic AF.

Kieran knows to make me happy all he has to do is buy me, beer, wine, or chocolate. For this recipe, I’ve combined wine and chocolate into a yummy Chocolate Red Wine Ice Cream treat!

A couple notes about the video. We fixed the blurriness problem from last week, but this week our lighting is inconsistent. One shot is fine, the next is blown out! We obviously have a lot to learn about lighting but we’ll get there. We purchased a microphone and new lighting to assist us in filming. I’m looking forward to knowing the equipment inside and out.

Here are some notes about the Chocolate Red Wine Ice Cream:

FREEZE THE ICE CREAM CANISTER ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURES INSTRUCTIONS

– Mine had to be frozen 24 hours before I churned ice cream.

A. The consistency of this ice cream is soft serve, no matter how long you freeze it for.
B. I used 2% milk instead of whole. Feel free to use whole milk!
C. I originally tried to sweeten the ice cream with honey without the chocolate chips but the taste fell flat.
D. If you want the chocolate flavor to be extra, add cocoa powder AND espresso powder. Both give the chocolate flavor extra oomph.
E. Not filmed but I also tried this recipe with 1 cup frozen strawberries, it was delicious too! I thawed the strawberries and added them to the wine before blending. The taste resembles chocolate dipped strawberries in ice cream form!
F. I used my favorite dry red wine, Bogle Cabernet. To ensure you like the taste of this ice cream, use a red wine you enjoy!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups of milk I used 2%
  • 1 ½ – 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of red wine I used Bogle cabernet
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder optional
  • ½ cup honey if you want the ice cream sweeter optional

Instructions
 

  • READ YOUR ICE CREAM MAKERS INSTRUCTION BOOKLET. MINE SAYS THE ICE CREAM MAKER'S CANISTER MUST BE FROZEN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE MAKING ICE CREAM.
  • Start the recipe by pouring the milk and chocolate chips in a pot. Turn the heat to medium and stir occasionally until the chocolate melts and is fully incorporated into the milk. Set aside until the mixture is cool.
  • Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Pour the mixture into a freezer safe bowl and freeze for 1-2 hours.
  • Assemble the ice cream maker and take your chilled mixture out of the freezer.
  • Pour the ice cream mixture into the ice cream maker and churn for 20-25 minutes or until the ice cream is thick and creamy.
  • Transfer the ice cream into the same freezer safe bowl.
  • The ice cream will be super soft, you can eat as is or freeze the ice cream up to 4-24 hours if you like firmer ice cream.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Freezing the mixture for 1-2 hours assists the ice cream maker in doing its job.
This recipe tastes amazing with strawberries too! I blended 1 cup of thawed (frozen) strawberries into the wine and chocolate milk mixture. The result tasted like a chocolate dipped strawberry in ice cream form!
